Registered Dietitian and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist

Grace and Food

Hi, I am Dawn White, Registered Dietitian and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. My passion for nutrition began as a love for science and the human body. One of my favorite classes in college was biochemistry and understanding the workings of the human body for health and survival along with how nutrition supports this.

Over the years, my love for nutrition and science along with many life experiences has grown into a passion for helping others navigate their relationship with food and their bodies. I have learned that this is a very personal, intimate relationship. With a posture of compassion and respect, I work to incorporate many tools including education on nutrition, counseling methods, compassion and listening, meal planning, mindful eating, faith and more as we work together to find peace, healing, improved life, and hope.

As I work with individuals around food, Charis underpins this work. Charis is Greek for grace and includes compassion, favor, kindness, responsiveness, gratitude, and so much more. Grace is also a term used to describe a prayer before a meal representing thankfulness for provision. When we think of our relationship with food and body, grace can be a stepping stone to change and healing.

My experience is varied. Over the past 25 years, I began in community hospital nutrition and have since worked in a variety of settings providing nutrition support and counseling in several areas including diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and dialysis, gastrointestinal concerns, weight management, pediatric and family nutrition and more. Over the past 9 years, I have worked with disordered eating and eating disorders in residential and outpatient levels of care and earned my Certified Eating Disorder Specialist certificate in 2023. I am passionate about nutrition along the life cycle in a non-diet, weight-neutral format. From working with children and adolescents (along with their parents) to adulthood, menopause, and the later stages of life, finding a healthy, balanced relationship with food brings peace, quality of life and support for health.

In other areas of my life, I love spending time with my husband and three daughters, music and piano, swimming, reading, and hanging out with friends.

I look forward to getting to know each person who chooses to work with me, their values and goals, and working together to find grace and peace with food.
